National Careers Week spotlight series: Daniel Winter

07 Mar 2024

To celebrate National Careers Week, we are spotlighting some of our impressive employees to give an insight into careers in the construction industry.

Daniel, a Senior Consultant at tusp, primarily operates as a Project Manager within the UK rail sector. His core focus lies in identifying and optimising efficiencies across projects, operations, and systems.

We sat down with Daniel to ask him a few questions about his experience and his role at tusp.

Can you share a brief overview of your career journey?

My work in construction started in 2014 as an Undergraduate Engineer, laying drainage and assisting with groundworks for a water utility contractor in Queensland, Australia. This formative period provided me with valuable field experience and an appreciation for the nuances of what contracting involved.

Following on from this and seeking project scale, I took on a role as Site Engineer for a civil works contractor on the Woolgoolga to Ballina (W2B) highway project in New South Wales, Australia. This chapter enabled me to develop my engineering skillset in civil infrastructure and gain an understanding of what large scale project planning, integration and delivery involved. Since then, I have delivered numerous road, rail and mining projects which aided my progression through to a Senior Project Engineer with BMD, and then a Senior Consultant as part of the BMD Group in the UK in 2023. Currently I am working as a Project Manager offering engineering support to the structures team on the Southern Renewal Enterprise (SRE) – a £2.8 billion, five-year renewal project located out of London and across the southern rail region of the UK.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to enter the industry?

A career in infrastructure allows you to contribute lasting solutions to the problems of today.

It is a job that is dynamic, fast paced, and reliant on solving technical, social and environmental problems as they arise.

What is your favourite BMD Group value? And why?

Empowering – each time I have had self-doubt about my performance, a solution or a decision, I’ve always had someone from BMD there to encourage and support me.
