The Project: Morgan Sindall are a UK construction and regeneration group who provide services in infrastructure, fit out, property services, partnership housing, urban regeneration, investments, and delivering public and private sector projects of all sizes.
tusp were engaged by Morgan Sindall onto the Werrington Grade Separation project which aimed to enable more passenger trains to run on the East Coast Main Line (ECML). This will be achieved by building a new two track railway line. At just over 3km, the new “dive under” will run under the ECML, north of Peterborough at Werrington junction and allow high-speed trains to pass over the Great Northern Great Eastern Line (GNGE).
tusp’s Work Scope: The work scope required infrastructure, rail and construction expertise.
Technical Capability: Our senior tusp consultant was engaged part way through programme delivery as the Project Management Director for the works. On initially taking over the project directorship, our consultant very quickly forged a strong relationship with all stakeholders, leading to increased efficiency and communication and a better working environment for all parties. Responsible for:
Leading a multi-disciplinary team of 300 white/blue collar workers on site.
Liaising with and reporting to all stakeholders (Morgan Sindall and Network Rail) on this very complex project.
Resolving initial project management issues that were present upon appointment in terms of planning and communication.
Installing team structure and an inclusive work environment to create the required dynamic for success.
Managing technical issues with tunnelling equipment.
Using operational planning and project management expertise to ensure that the work programme brought back in line with timescales, to meet project and cost milestones.
Preparing and delivering presentations and progress reports as required by ERDB and updating the deliverables in response to feedback received.
