More International Operators Could Be On The Way
The Department for Transport (DfT) has opened up their procurement process to make it more transparent and simpler, meaning there is the potential for more international bidders.
The introduction of a passport system means organisations can submit their company details that are kept in their ‘passport’ for up to 4 years. With this new system, any company with a passport can apply for all future franchises.
Following this DfT has now chosen the first 11 operators on to the passport system, which includes foreign organisations:
– Abellio Transport Group Limited
– Arriva UK Trains Limited
– First Rail Holdings Limited
– Go-Ahead Holding Limited
– Govia Limited
– MTR Corporation (UK) Limited
– National Express Trains Limited
– Stagecoach Group Plc
– Trenitalia SpA
– Virgin Holdings Limited
The DfT scrutinised and scored technical ability, strict safety standards and management practices to ensure the highest quality organisations from around the globe participate to open up and make the market more diverse and competitive.
