Line From Preston To Bolton To Close For 4 Months

Electrification works will begin between the Preston and Bolton line closing it every weekend for four months for the upgrade works to be completed.

Some of the works to be carried out will be lowering the track to accommodate new overhead equipment for the electric trains. From the end of the 2017 the electric trains are due to run from Preston to Manchester via Bolton. Additional work will be carried out at Chorley station to rebuild both platforms and the roofs over two subways inside.

The senior programme manage Noel Connolly stated “An electrified railway is part of this and will mean a better, more reliable railway for passengers. To deliver it, significant engineering is required to move and lower the track through Chorley and there is no other option but to close the line at weekends while this is carried out.

“The work has been carefully planned to cause as little disruption to passengers as possible and we are working closely with the train operators regarding amended services and will keep passengers informed.”

The works starts from the 18th June to 2nd October while the upgrades take place bus replacement services will be in operation for passengers travelling between Preston and Bolton.
